I'm enjoying being in the midst of the Holiday season. I have had more commissions this year than any other. Most commissions have come from my new painted feathers. I've been reluctant to post them to DA because they are not as great as some of the ones that I see here. They are certainly fun to paint though!
Although I have been successfully selling art throughout the year, it has been stressing me out. I end up getting torn between what is "popular" and what I actually feel like drawing. In previous years, my best artwork came from having fun, because I let go. But more recently, I have forsaken the enjoyment for the challenge. I seem to not feel good about my art unless I am forcing myself to draw extremely detailed pieces. I end up over-thinking my references to the point that I either a) decide not to draw it or procrastinate or b) stare at it for such a long time that I get frustrated and defeated before i even start drawing.
My goal for this year is to draw for fun again. Just pick a photo that I like and start drawing. No analyzing, no over thinking, just for fun like art should be (considering I'm not making a career out of it anyways).
So have a great Holiday Season!
